Shophouses around Talat Phlu and Thoet Thai: windows with security grilles
A lot of older shophouses have steel grilles on the upstairs windows — some fixed outside, some inside against the frame — and that changes how a blind goes in. If the grille sits inside the reveal, a roller or blind meant to mount inside the frame may not fit, and the fixing has to move up onto the wall above instead. Shophouses have one more trait: light only comes in at the front and the back, so the middle of the building is already dark, and the rooms that do have windows should not be made more opaque than necessary. None of this comes across fully in a photo, which is why we always measure on site first.
