Choosing a curtain shop: seven things to ask before you pay a deposit
The hard part is not finding out who is more expensive. It is that no two quotes count the same things, so they cannot be laid side by side. These seven questions make them comparable.
Say you get three quotes: 18,000, 26,000 and 31,000. The usual question is who is overcharging. The better question is whether the three are counting the same things. Usually they are not. One includes VAT, one does not. One includes fitting, one lists it separately. One includes taking the old curtains down, another never mentions it. Ask properly and the gap narrows a lot.
Seven questions worth asking every shop
- Does this include VAT? Seven percent, straight away — the single most common reason two quotes look different.
- Is fitting included, or billed separately? If separately, on what basis: per unit, by order value, or a flat fee?
- What does the site measure cost, and is it credited back if I order? Plenty of shops charge for it. Not all of them credit it.
- Do you take the old curtains down, and what does that cost? If there is something already up, always ask.
- What is warranted, for how long, and does that include the fabric? In this trade fabric usually is not covered. Ask rather than assume.
- How many days from deposit to fitted? If you are moving in, the date matters as much as the price.
- If a measurement or a size comes out wrong, who pays to fix it? Rarely asked, and the most revealing of the seven.
Our answers to all seven
| Question | Our answer |
|---|---|
| VAT included? | No — every price on this site is before VAT. We are VAT registered and can issue a tax invoice. |
| Fitting | Billed separately: 200 THB per unit, a flat 2,000 THB under ten units, free over 20,000 THB. Roller blinds are 200-2,500 THB per unit by size. |
| Site measure | 500-1,000 THB in Bangkok and the metro area, credited back in full when you order. Outside that it starts at 3,500 THB and is not credited back. |
| Old curtains | We take them down: 200 THB per unit. |
| Warranty | Motor 6 years, installation 1 year, wooden blind slats 1 year. The fabric is not covered — said here so nobody has to find out later. |
| Lead time | 7-14 days after you confirm, depending on how many units. The quote comes within a day of the measure. |
| Wrong measurement | If the error is ours, we fix it at our cost. |
Signals worth a follow-up question
- A whole-house price quoted over chat before anyone has seen the windows. That number almost always moves at the real measure. A starting rate can be given without sizes; a total cannot.
- Refusing to break the price into parts.
- No address you could walk into. Not damning on its own, but in year three it matters.
- A warranty described as full coverage with no years and no list of what is actually covered.
- An unusually large deposit requested before the site measure.
If you want to compare before speaking to anyone, our starting rates for every category are on the product pages — no need to message first. If you would rather send rough sizes and get a figure, read how to measure your own windows.
How many quotes should I get?
Three is usually enough — but only if all three are itemised the same way. Ten quotes that count different things still will not tell you anything.
Should I just take the cheapest?
If two quotes genuinely cover the same scope with the same warranty, then yes, take the cheaper one. The point is that they usually do not, so ask first and find out what you are comparing.
Do I need to visit the shop?
Not at all — we bring the fabric samples to you at the measure. You are welcome to come in if you would rather: we are in Bang Kruai, Nonthaburi, open 10:00-17:30. Full address at the bottom of the page.
How much is the deposit?
Our order is: message us, book the measure, get a quote within a day, then confirm and pay a deposit. Nothing is due before you have seen the figure.
Want the numbers for your own windows?
Send rough sizes first — no need to measure precisely. We'll work out a price, then arrange the real measure.
