Old shophouses on Charoen Krung: tall windows and high ceilings
The older shophouses along Charoen Krung usually have higher ceilings than modern ones, tall narrow windows, and on many ground floors the old folding wooden doors are still in place. Plenty have been turned into cafés, galleries or homes above a ground floor. Owners tend to want to keep the character of the original windows, so a covering that hides the frame completely is not always the answer; a curtain on a track fixed above the frame, drawn fully to the side, still shows the window off when it is open. On height, our curtains go up to 10 metres, but if the fixing point is high enough to need scaffolding, that is 500 THB per level, and the fitter puts it on the quote after the measure.
