Vertical Blind

About the Vertical Blind

A vertical blind is a row of tall louvres hanging from a top track. They rotate through 180° so you choose which direction light comes in from, and they slide to one side — or part in the middle — to clear the opening completely.

Its real strength is scale. The weight sits in individual louvres rather than in one big sheet, so very wide windows and long glass walls are easier and cheaper per square metre to cover this way than with a roller.

The other reason offices have used them forever is traffic. A sliding glass door you walk through all day doesn't suit anything that lifts and lowers, but with verticals you just push through and the louvres swing back into line by themselves.

Fabrics and colours to pick from

The number beside each fabric is roughly how much light it blocks.

  • PVC White · Light block 70%
  • Fabric Grey · Light block 75%
  • Fabric Beige · Light block 68%

What it does well, and where it falls short

The limits up front, so nothing is a surprise once it's on the wall.

Where it works well

  • Sliding glass doors in constant use — you walk through without gathering anything
  • Very wide windows and long runs of glass wall
  • Offices and meeting rooms that need to cut light off a screen now and then
  • Places where easy cleaning matters — PVC louvres just wipe down
  • Large areas, where pricing by actual area keeps the budget easier to control

Where we'd point you elsewhere

  • Bedrooms that need real darkness — light always slips between the louvres, even shut tight
  • Windows taller than the size in the table below — over-long louvres swing and twist
  • Spots where people knock into them constantly — louvres clip on at the top and pop off if bumped hard
  • Rooms wanting timber warmth or soft drape — these read businesslike by nature
  • Windows left open in constant wind — the louvres clatter against each other

How to choose without regretting it

Work through these in order and the choice narrows fast.

  1. 1

    PVC louvres or fabric ones

PVC wipes clean with a damp cloth on the spot, which suits kitchens, offices and dusty places. Fabric louvres feel softer and read more like a home, but they get vacuumed rather than wiped.

  2. 2

Which side the louvres stack to

The stack lands at one end and eats that part of the opening. If that end is a doorway or a walking route, send it the other way — or split it so each side carries half the stack.

  3. 3

Light or dark changes more than you'd think

Light louvres bounce daylight around and keep a room feeling bright even closed — good for offices that want an open feel. Dark ones handle glare better and give a clearer view out when tilted open.

  4. 4

Leave the louvres clear of the floor

Louvres long enough to touch the floor dirty at the tips first and catch as they slide. Always leave a small gap. That's a decision made at the measure, not on installation day.

  5. 5

    Ceiling-fixed or wall-fixed track

Fixed to the ceiling, the louvres run floor to ceiling and the room looks taller — right for full glass walls. Fixed to the wall above the frame suits ordinary windows and comes down more easily in a rental.

How the price is worked out

Verticals are priced by the square yard of each blind, with a minimum per unit like the other square-yard categories. Anything smaller than the minimum is charged at the minimum.

Because it's area-based, this category usually makes the most sense when there's a lot of glass to cover. The starting figures, the sizes we make and the installation cost are all in the box below. The final price is confirmed after the on-site measure.

The starting numbers for this type

  • Starting price — 690 THB/sq yd
  • Minimum per unit — 1.5 sq yd
  • Installation per unit — 200 THB per unit · under 10 units is a flat 2,000 THB · free over 20,000 THB
  • Sizes we make per unit — Height up to 320 cm
  • Light block — 45–90%
  • Excludes VAT · the final price depends on fabric grade and how many units

What moves the price

  • The total area of each blind
  • PVC or fabric louvres, and which colour
  • How many units in the job, since installation is per unit
  • Long glass runs that have to be split into several units
  • Whether anything has to come down first — charged separately
  • High ceilings that need scaffolding cost extra

Looking after it

Straighten the louvres before sliding them across

The single most important habit, and the one most people get wrong. Slide them while they're still tilted and the louvres twist against each other, working the top carriers loose. Square them up first, then slide.

Wipe PVC, vacuum fabric

PVC gets a well-wrung damp cloth, one louvre at a time, top to bottom. Fabric gets a gentle pass with a vacuum brush head. Never scrub either with a stiff brush — it pills the fabric.

Check the chain and weights at the bottom

The bottoms carry small weights and a light chain linking the louvres so they hang in line. If the chain comes loose or a weight goes missing, they start swinging out of order. A yearly glance is enough.

A popped-off louvre goes back on by hand

If a louvre drops out of its top carrier, it usually clips straight back in and carries on as before. Just don't force or twist the carrier itself — that plastic breaks more easily than it looks.

FAQ

Questions we get about this one

What does the site measure cost?

500-1,000 THB in Bangkok and the metro area, credited back in full when you order. Outside that it starts at 3,500 THB depending on distance and is not credited back.

What should be ready before you measure?

The room needs to be fully finished — the measurements have to be the final ones.

How long from order to installation?

7-14 days, depending on how many units.

I live in a condo — anything special?

Just let the building management know in advance that a fitter is coming.

What if a measurement is wrong?

If the error is ours, we fix it at our cost.

Do you take cleaning or repair jobs?

We don't take cleaning or repair work — not on curtains bought here, and not on curtains bought elsewhere. If it's something covered by the warranty (motor 6 years, installation 1 year, wooden blind slats 1 year), message us as usual.

My window is very wide — can it be one unit?

Up to a point. Beyond what a single track can carry, the standard answer is several units side by side — it still reads as one continuous run, and you gain the ability to open sections independently.

Can it clear the window completely?

Yes, though the stack still has to sit somewhere and will always take up part of the width. If you want the glass as clear as possible, run the track past the edge of the window so the louvres stack onto wall instead.

Wooden blinds or roller blinds? How to choose between them

These two are nearly three times apart in price, and people still pick by looks alone — when in fact they solve different problems.

How curtains are priced, why it is by the yard, and what cheap really means

The most common question is how many yards a two-metre window needs. The answer is not two metres converted to yards — and understanding why is the key to reading any curtain quote.

Blinds for heat and afternoon sun: what actually helps a west-facing room

A blind doesn't make the sun go away. It only changes where the sunlight lands once it's through the glass. Start from that and choosing fabric for an afternoon-sun room gets much easier than picking by colour.

Vertical blinds or roller blinds? How they differ, and which suits a sliding door

These two are both priced by the square yard, so people assume either will do. In fact they move in different directions and suit different openings.

Living room curtains: how to choose, and what suits a big sliding glass door

A living room isn't a bedroom: it doesn't need darkness, it needs the right amount of light, a view you can still see, and privacy once the lamps are on. So the right choice is rarely the most opaque fabric. It's the one that fits how the room is used through the day.

Office blinds: vertical, sunscreen roller or wooden, room by room

An office asks different things of a blind than a home does. Darkness is rarely the point. Screen glare, long runs of glass and low-effort upkeep are. This guide goes room by room through vertical blinds, sunscreen rollers and wooden blinds, then covers what the person signing it off usually asks: price, fitting times and tax invoices.
